    Pavla Pauknerová has an MA in Theory and History of Design and New Media from UMPRUM (thesis: “Věci dosud nespatřené. Dopad digitálních technologií na produktový design a hmotnou kulturu” [Things Previously Unnoticed. The Impact of Digital Technology on Product Design and Material Culture]) and a BA in Communications and Mass Media from University of New York in Prague (thesis: “Visual Identity Systems of Art Museums and Galleries”). From 2011 to 2016, she worked for Sotheby’s, where she assisted in the preparation of international auctions and pre-auction exhibitions. In 2017, she completed her PhD studies at UMPRUM (dissertation: Utéci z plochy. Datová vizualizace a otevřené možnosti informačního chování [To Escape from the Surface. Data Visualization and Open Possibilities of Information Behaviour]), and currently lectures at the same institution on the history and theory of graphic design and experimental positions of current design practice. As a curator and editor, she has collaborated, e.g., on the projects Tam a zpátky – Současný design, architektura a urbanismus ([There and Back – Contemporary Design, Architecture, and Urbanism], 2015), at the anniversary exhibition UMPRUM ATTACK! In the Trade Fair Palace of the National Gallery in Prague (2016), at the exhibition of student work “Prague Calling” as part of Vienna Design Week (2016), the exhibition Knihovna. Svazky a digitalizáty, sbírky a databáze ([The Library. Volumes and Digital Texts, Collections and Databases], 2018) or Design a transformace: Příběhy českého designu 1900–2020 [Design and Transformation: Stories of Czech Design] for the Design Museum Brussels (2023). With graphic designer Richard Jaroš, she compiled the publication Nejen kruhy. Vizuální přístupy v zobrazování dat a informací ([Not Only Circles. Visual Approaches in Displaying Data and Information], 2017). She has also published in the journals Art Antiques, Fotograf, Živel etc. In 2017 and 2018, she was a jury member for the “Most Beautiful Czech Book of the Year” competition, and in 2018 was jury chair for the 28th International Biennale of Graphic Design in Brno.
