Tomáš Zapletal is a historian focusing on the history of culture and art in the 19th and 20th centuries. He studied history and art history at the Faculty of Arts at Masaryk University in Brno and at Humboldt University in Berlin. Currently, he holds positions at the Institute of Archaeology and Museology at the Masaryk University Faculty of Arts as well as at UMPRUM in Prague. His research involves the history of decorative arts museums, the history of education and culture with a specific focus on the city of Brno and the historic region of Moravia. Additionally, he is the author of many translations of historic German texts from this region. He has contributed to the publications and exhibitions Brno-Moravský Manchester [Brno, the Moravian Manchester], 2014, or Od člověka k člověku. Karel Koch a Dušan Jurkovič [From Person to Person. K.K. and D.J.], 2022. He was also the editor of a crucial text from the early theories on artistic craft: Gottfried Semper. Věda, průmysl a umění [Science, Industry, and Art], Praha 2016.
